How To: Take Care of Your American Girl Doll

Your doll is a precious part of your life. She is one of your best friends, your favorite accessory to playtime, and so much more! It is important to take care of your American Girl Doll so she lasts as long as your memories do! Here are some of our BEST tips for keeping your doll in tip-top shape!


  1. Brush Her Hair

Always always brush your doll's hair with her own brush, otherwise the oils from your hair will transfer from your hair to your doll’s! To make your doll’s hair extra smooth, fill a travel size spray bottle with water and lightly spritz over your doll’s hair before brushing. Pro Tip: if you don’t have a hair brush, use a NEW toothbrush to comb your doll’s hair!

  1. Clean off with Baking Soda

Remove dirt and residue from the plastic features of your doll using baking soda and water. First, Dampen a wash cloth with water and sprinkle baking soda onto the dampened cloth. Rub onto the desired surface of the plastic part of your doll. Next, dampen another washcloth to remove the baking soda mixture. Dry off with a towel - voila your dollie is all clean!

*Make sure to only do this on the plastic ligaments and keep the mixture out of your doll’s eyes!*

  1. Keep out of the sun

Your doll is made of plastic and is not made to be put in the sun for long periods of time, 

  1. Keep Dry

Lastly, keep your doll dry! Unless you are cleaning off her arms or legs with a damp cloth, do NOT get your doll wet. That means no bath times or pool dips with your doll!
